2nd National contest of Choreography

For the second year Universo Salsero organizes the National Contest of Choreography in Poland, that will take place in 8 different cities (Wroclaw, Warsaw, Cracow, Czestochowa, Gdynia, Poznan, Szczecin, Lublin) during December 2010 and January 2011. In each of those cities will be organized a special salsa party with the contest, so all participants will have the chance to present their show and the people at the party will vote their favourite. The winners (that in case of a high number of participants could be more than 1 team) will get the access to the final that, like last year, will be during the Friday party at the Wroclaw Salsa Festival. All finalists will get the Friday party ticket for free and the winners will have the chance to buy the full pass for the festival for only 200 PLN.

Prices

At the final the winners of the contests in each city will present their choreography on stage and they will get 50% of the votes from the audience and 50% from the judges who will be some of the international artists invited to the festival.

The first 3 places will get some full passes for some international festival in Europe (Roma Salsa Festival, Limburg Salsa Festival, Monaco Salsa Festival) and the winners will also get the cup and 1200 PLN.

Registration

The cost of participation is 20 PLN for each member of the team or 100 PLN for the whole team in case of more than 5 dancers. To register you have to send an email with the title "Competition" to info@universosalsero.com, including full names of each of the dancer and the name of the team and/or of the dance school to which they belong, before November 19th.

Roles

The contest is open, that means that everybody can take part on it, amateur and professional dancers. It’s not possible to participate alone, but every team has to be a minimum of 2 dancers and a maximum of 10. The music can be maximum 4 minutes long and at least 75% of the time has to be salsa. When the music is salsa the dancers have to dance salsa, not other kinds of dance, they can put some movements from other styles, but mostly it has to be salsa.

The choreography presented at the contest can’t have been already performed in any kind of dance festival, it must be exclusive for the 4th Wroclaw Salsa Festival. The dancers who register have to be the same ones who perform at the eliminatories. After November 19th is possible to change only one person in the team sending an email, but the latest time is 1 week before the competition. The team that will get the final also can't change the dancers except for 1 member who can be changed latest on 11.02.2011 sending an email as well.

All teams have to participate at the eliminatory in the city to which they belong or, if they live in another place they can chose one city, but no team can register in more than 1 city at the eliminatoriesl. On the other side, if in some city there are many competitors we have the right to let more teams go to the final or to give to some of them the chance to take part again in the competition, in another city.

The contest focuses mainly on the choreography than on the dance technique, so the most important thing is the creativity, in the music and/or in the dance, the story, the harmony and the sincronism of the dancers. Then, the other parameters of evaluation will be the costumes, the appearence on stage, the timing and the dance technique.

All official styles of salsa are allowed: Los Angeles, New York, Colombian, Puerto Rican and Cuban style. Also Rueda de Casino is allowed, but, as it has to be a choreography and not an improvisation, it will be more appreciated if it will have a beginning and an end.
